Mary Ann Haeuser Obituary

Mary Ann Haeuser (nee Ehrhardt) died on Friday, February 16, 2024 in the presence of John Haeuser, her husband of 59 years, Ingrid Klansek, her friend of 43 years, and Nancy Toney, her neighbor of 52 years.  Born in New Jersey, she moved reluctantly to California, landing eventually on Laurel Place, from which she declared she would not move until she was taken out feet first.

Mary Ann earned degrees from Trinity College (B.A.), Creighton University (B.S.N.), UC San Francisco (MSN), and Sonoma State University (FNP).  She worked as a floor nurse at Marin General Hospital over a span of more than 20 years (1973-1994).  She eventually moved into teaching, serving as a Professor of Nursing on the faculty at Dominican College of San Rafael (1990-2009).  She said, after she started teaching, that she finally knew what she wanted to do when she grew up.

Mary Ann maintained an extensive network of colleagues from professional groups including the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars, the National Catholic Bioethics Center, the National Association of Catholic Nurses, the Association of California Nurse Leaders, the Ritter House Advisory Board, and the Aldersley Advisory Board.  She also enjoyed a large acquaintance in the Catholic and Pro-Life communities, including the Marin Network for Life and 40 Days for Life.

Mary Ann’s proudest achievement, however, is the family she and John raised together.  She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Randy) Bayuk and their children Elizabeth, Nicholas, Olivia, Alexander, Juliana, Penelope, Peter, Max, and Ivan, her son Chris (Cyndi) Haeuser and his children Robert and Michael, her daughter Molly (Kevin) Kennedy and their children Kate, Ryan, and Will, and her son Charles (Hilary) Haeuser and their children Sophia, Josie, Luke, Sebastian, Mick, and Iggy, as well as four great grandchildren, Benjamin, Beowulf, Bella, and Oliver.

Mary Ann’s funeral will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 26, at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Church in Greenbrae, CA, followed by a reception in the church hall.  There will be a viewing and rosary at 2 pm on Sunday, February 25, at Monte’s Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo.  A private interment ceremony for the family will be held the following day.
