John Komo In a poetic exit from this life, on Christmas morning John Komo passed away at the age of 94. An Assyrian, first generation American, John grew up on a farm in Turlock, California, one of five children. A veteran of WWII, he was stationed in Biak, New Guinea (then a vital airstrip and forerunner to Iwo Jima) and later stationed in Buffalo, New York, where he married Grace Ruggiero. On returning to California, he worked with his brother in construction before setting out on his own with his good friend Arne Erickson. He continued to work in construction until his retirement the age of 71. A long time San Anselmo resident, John will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of food and gardening. He treated everyone he met, no matter their station in life, with respect and good will, and never spoke ill of anyone regardless of the provocation. John is survived by his wife Grace; daughter, Theresa Hawken (Hil) of San Anselmo; son, John Komo III (Betsey, Nan deceased) of Los Altos Hills; sisters, Sarah and Betty; 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral and Celebration of Life is 11:00, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at St. Anselmo Catholic Church, Ross. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to The Disabled Veterans Organization or Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary.
