It is with sadness that the family of Peter N. Zwart announce his passing at age 68 on Friday, January 11th in Sausalito, California. Peter was born in the coastal town of Ijmuiden, the Netherlands, to Klaas and Anie Zwart, and was never far from the sea. In his 20s, he sailed around the world as a maritime engineer. In his 30s, he settled on a houseboat in Sausalito and stayed, ultimately becoming Vice President of Operations at Baydelta Maritime in San Francisco. Peter will be remembered for many things, notable among them his skill at cooking: many of his family and friends will recall his excellent, made-from-scratch apple pie, as well as the best lamb they've ever tasted. He was an avid reader, especially of naval history. He was a connoisseur of fine whiskeys. He was well-traveled. And he was loved. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his son Nicolaas Zwart, his wife Maria Teresa Aguirre Guarneros, his brother Gerrit Zwart, his sister Johanna Lips-Zwart, his twin sister Anneke Zwart, his step-daughters Paulina Lastiri and Pamela Lastiri, and his dogs, sisters Pepita and Chiquita. Per his wishes, his ashes have been given to the Pacific Ocean.
