Aurelio (Ray) Bonacci, 97 years old, of San Rafael, California passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026 surrounded by family and loved ones in the comfort of his home.
Ray was born in 1929 in Decollatura, Italy and studied at the Grimaldi Institute, where he received a degree in accounting before immigrating to the United States in 1950. He spent his first 5 years residing in Danbury, Connecticut prior to moving to California and establishing his life with his beloved wife, Francesca, who pre-deceased him in 2025.
A self-made man, he started his financial career in the late 1950's working for Reynolds Aluminum and transitioned into the building maintenance industry in the 1960's working as the financial manager for two San Francisco Companies. He adapted well to the business and within a few years ventured out as owner of Golden State Building Maintenance Company for over 25 years.
He grew the organization form a small San Francisco based business to a well-respected service company with clients throughout the West Coast. Following Ray's Retirement in the early 1990's he continued to stay active developing real estate in Marin County, playing bocce in San Rafael, playing gin rummy and poker with friends at The Elks Club, and traveling to Italy with his deer wife of 68 years, Francesca.
Ray found joy in entertaining family, friends and colleagues at his home where there was never a shortage of delicious food, zesty cocktails and fine wine.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Larkspur, CA and interment was at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, San Rafael, CA.
Ray will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him. The stories, laughter, lessons and love he shared will remain a lasting part of the lives he touched.
