Bernadette Baraty Obituary

With heavy hearts we share the peaceful passing of our beloved Bernadette Ann Baraty, cherished Mother, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend. Bernadette passed away on December 3, 2024, at her home in Larkspur, California, at the age of 100.

Born on September 1, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, Bernadette was the daughter of William and Martha Falvey, who owned a local gas station frequented by Al Capone. When she was just four years old, her family relocated to California, where Bernadette would go on to lead an extraordinary life.

During World War II, Bernadette proudly enlisted in the Navy, serving for three years. While serving, she pursued her education, ultimately earning her bachelor’s degree from Lone Mountain College and her master’s degree from San Francisco State University. Stationed at Treasure Island, Bernadette continued working with the Navy as a civilian for two additional years.

Bernadette had a deep passion for education and dedicated 30 years to the Sausalito School District as an award-winning elementary school teacher. After retiring from teaching, she embarked on a second career as an administrator at Gilardi and Company, where she worked for another 20 years.

Bernadette is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Edward Baraty, who passed away in 1980. Together, they raised four children and created a loving home in Marin County, where Bernadette continued to live until her passing. She is survived by her children: Patricia Godsey (John), Edward Baraty, Dennis Baraty (Lindy), and William Baraty (Karen).

She cherished her role as a grandmother to Jed Godsey (Eileen), Ian Godsey (Christine), Brian Baraty (Maggie), Kaelan Baraty (Melissa), Briana Masdon (Josh), and Sarah Kirkland (Daniel). Bernadette adored her great grandchildren: Kit, Kate, Jack B., Everett, Taylor, Jack G., Emery, Lucy, Liam, Arden, and Parker.

Bernadette had many passions, including teaching, playing bridge, and watching Blue Bloods and Law and Order. She was an avid reader, enjoying biographies, romance novels, and mysteries. She also loved traveling with her sister Maureen, visiting family in Ireland, and taking cruises.

She was predeceased by her siblings Liam Falvey, Peggy Ronaldson, Mary Falvey, Pat Falvey, and Maureen Laval, as well as their beloved spouses, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
