Christina Wentworth Obituary

Christina “Christy” Coyne Wentworth, 58, of Larkspur, California, passed away suddenly on March 3, 2026.

Born in Newport Beach, California, to Sharon and Theodore Wentworth, Christy grew up surrounded by family, creativity, and the natural beauty of Southern California. Her childhood was marked by imagination and independence, whether playing with neighborhood friends, crafting and selling handmade barrettes, or exploring her artistic talents through drawing and painting. She attended Harbor Day School and later graduated from Corona del Mar High School, where she found joy in dance as a member of the Orchesis program.

Some of Christy’s earliest and most treasured memories were made with her family: hiking through the High Sierra camps of Yosemite, wandering the groves of her family’s avocado ranch in Palma Valley, and traveling to destinations across Hawaii, Mexico, and the United States. These experiences helped shape her lifelong love of nature, curiosity about the world, and appreciation for life’s quieter moments.

A natural thinker with a sharp mind and strong sense of purpose, Christy pursued her education at the University of the Pacific, studying finance before continuing on to the McGeorge School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 1996 and went on to work in the legal field, including time with the District Attorney’s office.

In 1997, Christy married Jeffrey Coyne, and together they welcomed two children, Lauren and Brian. The couple later divorced in 2006, after which Christy resumed using her maiden name. Over time, her family relationships grew and changed, yet remained a meaningful part of her life.

Christy’s love of literature was a defining thread throughout her life. She found comfort, inspiration, and a sense of possibility within the pages of books and among the shelves of bookstores. In 2005, she brought that love to life by opening The First Page in Newport Beach, a small, beloved bookstore dedicated to children’s literature, gifts, and daily story times. She took particular joy in helping young readers find the book that might open their world, believing deeply in the power of stories to shape a life.

In 2016, Christy returned to the Bay Area, a place she had always felt drawn to. There, she built a new chapter, working in financial services, helping small businesses navigate record-keeping and tax strategy, forming meaningful friendships, and dedicating time to thoughtfully renovating a new home.

Christy will be remembered for her intelligence, quick wit, and deeply thoughtful spirit. She had an enduring appreciation for music and dance, a special fondness for Neil Diamond, and a quiet, steadfast resilience. She found happiness in simple, meaningful moments: a long walk, a good book, a conversation with a friend, or time spent with her daughter, Lauren.

She is survived by her children, Lauren and Brian Coyne; her sister, Kathy (Court) Purdy; her nieces, Aidan and Caitlin Purdy; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sharon and Theodore Wentworth. She will be remembered privately by her family.
