David Hinman, 96, of Larkspur, California passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024 with his children lovingly by his side.David (Dave) was born on June 5, 1927 to George and Mabel Hinman in San Francisco, California. He had four brothers and together they supported their mother after their father passed away. Dave was only 13 years old at that time. When 17 years old, Dave joined the Army as an able bodied seaman and served on troop transport ships during WWII.In 1947 Dave met Phyllis O'Connor on a blind date. They immediately hit it off and married 3 years later in 1950. The two had their first child, Michael in 1952. Their second child, Mary-Louise was born in 1954 and their third child Patricia was born in 1958.Dave began his married life working as a carpenter. With the added responsibility of a growing family, he applied to become a San Francisco firefighter and was hired. Dave loved being a firefighter, loved the camaraderie and loved serving his community. He rose up through the ranks and retired as an Assistant Chief. Dave loved dancing, travelling and RV'ing with Phyllis and visiting with his children's families. While we lost our most beloved Dad and will miss him greatly, many have lost a good friend and a loved one in him. He has been a source of strength to many and a master at humor and witty timing to all. There was so much more to him than just Dad, though to us that was his greatest role. Dave was also a friend, a co-worker and colleague, a volunteer, a problem solver, a builder and handyman, a golfer and the list goes on and on.Dave was predeceased by his wife Phyllis, the love of his life, his parents and 4 brothers. He is survived by his 3 children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.A private family funeral mass will be held at Saint Patrick's Church in Larkspur, California. Assisted by Monte's Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo, CA.
