It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Didrik Leonard Petersen, who left us on Tuesday, February 4th, 2025. He was born in San Francisco, California on December 18, 1964, to Robert “Bobby” McLane Petersen, and Cecelia Jane Adams. Didrik's life was marked by his unwavering love for family, friends, and the pursuits that brought him joy. Sports, music, cooking for family and friends, traveling, and adventure were some of his passions.
His love for his family was immense, and he leaves behind his beloved daughter Natascha Petersen, her mother Kerstin Nash, his sisters Anastasia (Staci) Matthews Quirindongo and Veronica Matthews; brother-in-law Pablo Quirindongo; aunt Laura Gayle Garcia, and his cousins Jubal, Raina and Reuben Garcia. Also left behind are nephews Nathan Hughes, William and Quentin Quirindongo; niece Shaylyn Hughes, and second cousins Sean Reilly, Evan Skylar, Abigayle Ortiz Garcia; Jameson and Aubrielle Silvis. Also left are many close friends too numerous to name, and his beloved dog and constant companion, Romeo. Their memories with him will forever be cherished.
Didrik was always a “smarty pants” from childhood throughout his adult life. He was in the gifted program at school and tested 3rd in the State of California. A lot of his younger years were spent backstage at the Grateful Dead shows with his parents; but playing sports (football, baseball, soccer and golf) was his youthful passion. Golf, however, remained a lifelong joy, playing with friends whenever he could. Not only did he play sports, but he was an avid Bay Area sports fan. His love for the San Francisco 49ers, Giants and Golden State Warriors was unparalleled.
Always ready for a good time, Didrik enjoyed going to concerts, river rafting, jet skiing, hiking, a good party. He loved a good challenge. He had a zest for life. There was also the side that loved knowledge and the quietness of gardening or reading a book or doing a crossword puzzle. Although he lived life to the fullest, Didrik lived a humble life. He didn’t seek wealth, but joy.
Didriks work career began with SeaTel in the engineering department where he worked on satellite stabilizers designed for ships. He then went on to start a business with a friend in custom hardwood flooring. Finally, his love of food and the joy of preparing and sharing a meal led him to get a degree in Culinary Arts. He enjoyed being a Private Chef to his family and friends.
He loved people and found a connection with almost everyone he met. He believed that smiling at a stranger could have an impact and brighten their day. He was a loyal friend to many and went out of his way to help anyone in need. He carried the strength and wisdom of his spirit animal, the Wolf, and embodied the fierceness and determination of being born in the year of the Dragon.
Didrik lived most of his life in Northern California with a short time in Hawaii, for which he had an affinity and fond memories, but Fairfax, CA, was where his heart remained. Wherever he went, he always found his way back to Fairfax.
His zest for life and love of family, friends and community will leave an indelible mark on all who knew him. As we remember Didrik, let us honor him with a smile for a stranger, a meal with a friend, or a helping hand to someone in need.
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. He will remain in our hearts forever.
May your spirit run wild and free Didrik Leonard Petersen. Be at peace with God.
Until we meet again.
