Emmet Devlin Obituary

EMMET JOHN DEVLIN
JUNE 11, 1964 — AUGUST 1, 2020 (AGE 56)

Emmet passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on the morning of Aug 1st.  He was born in Englewood, NJ to John James (Jack) Devlin and Marie Elaine Ewing.   Emmet spent his early years in New Jersey and Connecticut before ultimately landing in Arlington, Tx in 1972.   He took pride in his descent as a second-generation Irishman.

Growing up in Arlington with his two sisters, Emmet played many sports and excelled in baseball and soccer as a star goalie.  In 1982 he graduated from Arlington High School and then attended the University of Texas Arlington where he earned a BA in Business.

Emmet did not spend all of his time studying.  He was a proud member of Delta Upsilon fraternity and formed countless and enduring friendships.  Emmet was one of those "go to guys" who was always there to steady the way – a consistent trait throughout his life.  He lived his life deliberately, with purpose and a quiet intensity.

Emmet never wanted to work behind a desk, so a career in technology sales fit his skills and personality perfectly.  He spent over 30 years working with and for the industry leaders in technology.   The majority of his career was with Dell Technologies where he made many lifelong friends.

When not working you could always find Emmet in the outdoors enjoying life. He loved spending time with nature most recently picking up fishing and hiking the trails of Mount Zion.  He also kept a close eye on the financial markets, using technical analysis to actively trade stocks.  It was at a Christmas party in Austin, TX that he met his future wife, Monique Ho.  Emmet looked mighty fine sporting his custom-made kilt at his wedding - and his fraternity brothers never let him forget about it.

After their careers took them to San Francisco, Emmet and Monique welcomed their first daughter, Hayley Lan, followed by Emily Wai and then Scarlett Iey.  From trips to the barn for Hayley to ride, to swim practice for Emily and coaching soccer for Scarlett, Emmet was a dedicated and loving father.  Those Devlin girls filled Emmet’s life with the joy, laughter, and pride that only a father would know.

Emmet was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Elaine Devlin.  His is survived by two sisters, Nancy and Jill - both of whom reside in Texas.  He is also survived by his co-parent Monique Mahn Ho Devlin.  But his universe, his world and his legacy were his three daughters Hayley (17), Emily (15) and Scarlett (12) who will miss their Padre dearly.

Due to Covid19, services are not permitted at this time.  A private service for Hayley, Emily, Scarlett and Monique will be held on Friday August 21, 2020 at 5:00PM PST / 7:00PM CST / 8:00PM EST.  We ask that you pause at this time, wherever you are, whatever you are doing for a moment of silence.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hayley and Emily’s school, Marin Catholic.  Funds will go to the MC General Scholarship Fund for students in need of tuition assistance.
