Gary Anthony Johnson, 67, of San Anselmo passed away on March 15, 2026 surrounded by family and close friends.
Gary was born April 7, 1958 and raised in Marin County. He attended Blessed Sacrament, Marin Catholic High School and University of San Diego (on basketball scholarship). Gary was an avid sports enthusiast & was a huge supporter of the Giants, Warriors and Niners, as well as golf. For 40 years, he worked and excelled at Golden State Lumber until his retirement in 2023.
Gary loved his family and was devoted to his sons Pete & Andy and their families. He was a loyal and loving husband and traveled the world with his true love, Leslie, and stayed happy until his last breath. He was preceded in death by his father Walter Johnson and sister in law Lou Pell. Gary is survived by his wife Leslie McDonald, his sons Pete (Mara) & Andy (Jessica), his 4 grandchildren (Everly, Landon, Damian, Sloane), his mother Delphine, brothers Steve (Christine), Mike (Anita) & Dan (James), the mother of his children Maureen O’Connell, sister in law Christy and the entire McDonald family
Leslie and the family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has reached out with phone calls, flowers, cards and prayers during this difficult time. It is truly appreciated.
