Ian Patrick Dillon was born on August 3, 1971, in Walnut Creek, California. He grew up and spent his early adulthood in San Francisco before moving to Pinole and then Marin County, which became his home in every sense of the word. Ian passed away on January 27, 2026, leaving behind a family and community who loved him deeply.
Growing up in San Francisco, Ian loved to explore Golden Gate Park, roam Ocean Beach and ride his bike until the stars would begin to shine in the sky. He was a proud scout member of Troop 12 and achieved Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program of Scouting America. He attended and graduated from Raoul Wallenberg High School, followed by San Diego State University, where he enjoyed studying and being a member of Delta Sigma Phi. After returning to Northern California to finish college, he received his Bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University. He continued his education at University of California College of the Law, San Francisco (formerly Hastings College of the Law) securing his Juris Doctor degree and passing the Bar on his first attempt. He started his legal career working with the Law Office of Christopher E. Grell and later became a partner at Walsworth Franklin Bevins and McCall. He approached his work with dedication and integrity, earning the trust of fellow attorneys, colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond his professional life, Ian was known for his curiosity and love of the stories behind things. He was a collector of vintage toys, trinkets, historic electronics, and memorabilia. Ian loved to find an interesting piece that someone else considered junk, and then work to preserve the item, giving them new life. He found joy in selling these finds on his LuckyLad12 Ebay shop, where he made close to 3,000 sales! Ian was a 49er Faithful Fan, always ready to talk football, reminisce about great plays, and share the excitement of game day.
In 2003, Ian married Stacey Stephenson, and together they built a home focused on family in historic downtown Pinole. His proudest role was being a daddy to Reiley (20), Bailey (18), and Cooper James (11) - the center of his world and the people he loved most fiercely.
He is survived by his wife, Stacey; their children; his mother, Janice Dillon; his brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Carla Dillon; and his best friend, Ed Hue - along with extended family and many friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his father, William Dillon; his aunt, Margaret Gleason; and his uncle, Bernard Dillon.
Ian will be remembered for the way he showed up for the people he loved, his quiet passions, the care he put into the life he built and his smile. The things he collected, the traditions he kept, and the relationships he nurtured are lasting reflections of who he was.
A funeral mass to honor Ian’s life will be held at St. Anselm Church (97 Shady Lane, Ross) on Saturday, February 21 at 12noon, followed by a lite reception in the Social Hall.
