Jane Cobb, a Marin resident for 63 years, passed away peacefully at home with family on December 13, 2025. Jane loved golf, bridge, the 49ers, needlepointing, and reading. But above all, she loved her friends and family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother.
Jane was born and raised in Watsonville, California by her mother, Julia Williams Sullivan. She moved to San Francisco, and there she met Ross Cobb. They wed in 1962 and moved to Marin, where they raised their two daughters, Suzanne and Julie. Jane was a dedicated mother, attending her daughters’ many school and sporting events.
Jane had a very active social life. She and Ross were founding members of the Marin Tennis Club, and they spent many days there playing tennis with friends. Later, they set aside their tennis rackets for golf clubs. Jane loved playing golf with Ross and her friends at the Meadow Club, and she later shared her love for golf with her grandchildren.
Jane was the consummate hostess. She and Ross enjoyed entertaining friends at their home in San Rafael and during many summer trips to Tahoe Tavern. There was always much laughter and shenanigans.
Jane treasured being “Jammy” to her 7 grandchildren. She could routinely be found on the pool deck and in the bleachers, cheering on her grandchildren at swim meets, water polo matches, and soccer and baseball games. She may have also heckled an umpire or two. Jammy also loved bringing her grandchildren to watch 49er games and was known to be ruthlessly competitive with them in games of Rummikub on trips to Tahoe.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband Ross, as well her siblings John Sullivan, Terry Townsend, and Margaret Sullivan. She is survived by her daughters Suzanne Christie (Jock) and Julie Martel (Jack), her grandchildren Meghan, Will, Kendall, Luke, Kate, Reed, and Ian (Avery) and her niece Stacy Townsend and grandnephew Grayson Townsend.
Her family would like to thank her caregiver, Raijeli Tabuacava, for the love and kindness she showed Jane over the last several years.
A private service was held at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
