Jerry (Gerard) O’Connell, a San Rafael resident since 1985, passed away quietly and unexpectedly in his sleep on June 10. A devoted husband, father, brother and friend to many, Jerry was 72. Born to Rose and Michael O’Connell on March 23,1952 in Chicago, IL. He is survived by his wife Carol O’Connell, adored daughter Erin O’Connell, soon to be son-in-law Kenneth Goodman-Farley, brothers Michael O’Connell and Thomas O’Connell, sister-in-law Pat Workman and brother-in-law’s Jay Workman and David Henkel. After graduating from Loyola University in Chicago with a degree in English Literature, Jerry followed the love of his life and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1977. Carol and Jerry married in 1980 and had a wonderful life together. Upon receiving a Master’s Degree in Finance from Golden Gate University, Jerry spent his career working in Finance until he retired 9 years ago. Nobody loved retirement more than Jerry! He became a passionate pickleball player where he made many good friends. He also loved to travel, hike, bike, golf, watch sports, paint, listen to music, and read many books. He was a great friend to many and always had a big smile and kind words for everyone. He was very much loved and will be deeply missed by his family and everyone that knew him.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made to the World Central Kitchen or the charity of your choice.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will take place July 5 at 2 p.m. at The Club Restaurant at McInnis Park, 350 Smith Ranch Road in San Rafael. No suits, Jerry disliked wearing them.
