Joan Elizabeth Garrison passed away July 4th, 2024, peacefully. Born in New York, she lived in Washington state before settling in Fairfax, California where she resided for almost 50 years. She served in the United States Army and received a history degree from Seattle University after her honorable discharge. She worked in the insurance industry at Blue Shield for over 20 years and retired. She is survived by her sons Jean-Paul Boykin, Michael Hansen and daughter-in-law Sandra Cobb-Boykin.
Joan loved learning, traveling, people and parties. She took classes at the College of Marin in computers, languages and history just to add to her knowledge and keep her mind active. At the age of seventy she traveled with a group to Nigeria.
If you want to honor her memory, learn something you think you are not interested in, read a book you have been putting aside, go somewhere off the beaten path, help someone who needs it just because. And last, but not least, have a gathering and celebrate the good times with friends and family.
United States Military Honors Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2024 at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620.
At the request of Joan's family, please do not send flowers.
