Joseph Francis Allen
1944-2024
Joseph Francis Allen was born in San Francisco on December 22, 1934. He was a lifelong resident of Fairfax where he lived with his father William, mother Caroline and his sisters and brothers. Educated in local schools, he worked for a time at a service station before beginning a long career with the U. S. Postal service. Joe was a devoted member of St. Rita Church, attending weekly mass and singing in the church choir. Joe joined Fairfax Parlor #307 of the Native Sons of the Golden West in 1963, serving as parlor president in 1989. He attended many of the order’s annual conventions as an elected delegate. He was one of the few local Native Sons who was proficient in the ritual work, having committed it to memory. His associations with fellow members enabled him to become a leader in the order. Joe had a true green thumb; his vegetable garden provided fresh produce for many of his friends. He had many memories of growing up in Fairfax and often talked about his early life in his home town. He is survived by many loving family members and friends. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 100 Marinda Drive, Fairfax, followed by The Native Son’s Funeral Service Presentation and a reception in St. Rita Hall.
Assisted by Monte’s Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo.
