Laura Giovannoni died on Feb. 22 at the age of 94 in her home in Larkspur, where she had lived, loved and raised her family since 1956. She was born Laura Candida Melo in Crows Landing California, to parents, Rosa and Emidio Melo. The middle child of seven siblings, she grew up on the family farm in the San Joaquin Valley.
After graduating High School as Valedictorian, Laura worked the summer for the War effort before moving to San Francisco to continue her education in the USF Nursing School. During training Laura met the great love of her life Paul Giovannoni. They married in 1948 and moved to Larkspur in 1956. Laura and Paul remained a devoted couple until his death in 2014.
Bright eyed and good natured until the end, Laura was a joy to all and an active participant in the lives of her family and her many friends.
Laura was preceded in death by her son, James (2016) and is survived by her sons, Stephen and Thomas, and by her daughter Laura (Eckhard), and her daughter-in-law Betsy Giovannoni. She will be sorely missed by her grandchildren: Jessica Giovannoni, Kate (Eckhard) Baldwin (Joe) and Micaela Eckhard, Amy (Giovannoni) Johnston (Tim) and Paul Giovannoni, Leila (Wes Schneider) and Michael Giovannoni, and by her great-grandchildren: Lily and Wyatt Baldwin, and Emma Erickson.
