Lloyd "Skip" Ruhl Jr. Obituary

Skip passed away unexpectedly Sunday January 6th, at his home in Rohnert Park. He was 69 years old. He was the first of three children born to LaVerne and Lloyd “Bud” Ruhl. Born in Sacramento, his family moved to Marin County in 1952. Skip grew up in San Anselmo, attending local schools, and was in Boy Scounts for many years, achieving the rank of 1st Class Scout.  He graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School in 1967. He earned his Associate in Science degree from College of Marin in 1969 and his Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Humboldt State College in 1971. There he met his “Sweetie” Virginia and they were married in 1973 in her hometown of Manteca. In 1976 Skip and Virginia moved north to Rohnert Park where they became parents and raised their two daughters Amy and Lauren Ruhl. Skip was an avid bowler, starting in junior league at age 13 and continued league bowling throughout his life, earning 2, 300 games. Skip served on the Board of Directors for the Marin County Men’s Bowling Association, and as its president 1996-1998. Skip, as an enthusiastic sports fan, also volunteered for many years as a youth soccer coach and tournament director for the Rohnert Park Soccer League. Skip’s career in majority was in the lumber industry, working at San Marin Lumber in San Rafael for 8 years and then at Truitt and White Lumber in Berkeley, where he specialized in government and industrial sales from 1982-2011. He then worked at Heavy Equipment Parts in Hayward until his retirement in 2015. He had an extensive knowledge of lumber, building materials, heavy equipment, logistics and construction. His parents Bud and LaVerne Ruhl of San Anselmo predecease Skip. Surviving Skip are his loving wife Virginia Ruhl, his daughters Amy and Lauren Ruhl of Santa Rosa, brother Curt Ruhl (Lois) of Terra Linda, sister Debbie Ruhl of Roy, Utah, Nephew C.J. Ruhl (Christina), nieces Kimberly Gore (Rodney), Bonnie Rogers (Mark), Cristina Sauter (Dan) and many other family members. There will be a remembrance service held for Skip on Saturday January 19th at Monte’s Chapel of the Hills, 330 Red Hill Avenue, San Anselmo at 11am.
