Lucy Lau Ying (Yeung) Hom

The family of Lucy Lau Ying Hom would like to express their deepest sorrow at her sudden and unexpected passing.  Our beloved mother, sister, aunt and grandmother was born in Hong Kong as one of six children to the late James Cheung Fat Yeung and Rose Marie Siu Ping Chu.  Her father was a successful businessman who owned and operated a popular printing company in Hong Kong.  After graduating from the prestigious St. Paul’s Convent School in Hong Kong, she entered the Queen Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing where she became a certified nurse.  Lucy later immigrated to Canada where she held a nursing position at Vancouver General Hospital, and then immigrated two years later to the United States where she started work at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center.  Her distinguished nursing career spanned over 30 years including two decades of providing critical care to premature babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek as well as Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach.

As devoted as she was to being a nurse, she was an equally devoted mother to her two sons, Christopher and Jeffrey, and grandmother to her four granddaughters.  Lucy loved her family immensely, and whether it was traveling, playing mahjong, or hosting for the holidays, her life’s joy was in being with her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Yeung Nai Gong and her sister Rosalind Yeung.  She is survived by her sons, Christopher (daughters Eleanor and Magnolia) and Jeffrey (wife Jennifer, and daughters Allison and Charlotte), as well as her older sister, Marcella Young, her younger brothers, Dr. Bill Yeung (wife Janet), and Dr. Alex Yeung (wife Margaret), and their respective families.  She will always be remembered for the caring, helpful and humorous woman that she was.
