Mahin Mohtasham

Mahin Mohtasham, known as “Mimi” to her family and friends, passed away on August 1, 2026, at the age of 94.

Mimi was born in Iran on September 17, 1931. As a young woman, she was an elementary school teacher. After losing her husband, Reza Farzaneh, at the age of 45, she continued raising her family with strength, independence, and devotion.

At the age of 51, Mimi came to the United States and began a new chapter of her life. She eventually made her home in Marin County, California.

Mimi remained deeply connected to her family in Iran throughout her life. Her yearly visits were especially meaningful to her, giving her cherished time with those she loved and helping her maintain the close family bonds that meant so much to her. She looked forward to those visits each year. 

Mimi cared deeply about her health and stayed active throughout her life. For much of her time in Tiburon, she began her day with an hour-long walk along the water at Blackie’s Pasture. She carried that same energy with her when she traveled; at 89, during a trip to Los Angeles, she made a two mile walk from Venice Beach to the Santa Monica Pier. Her energy and commitment to taking care of herself inspired those around her.

Animals held a special place in Mimi’s heart. Throughout her life, she cared for many cats, as well as a dog and two chickens (named Mr. Black and Mrs. Gold after their colors). In her later years, she delighted in feeding birds and squirrels that came to the house. 

Mimi also loved to travel and rarely turned down an invitation to go somewhere. Over the years, she traveled throughout the world and always enjoyed experiencing new places and cultures. She also appreciated life’s simple pleasures closer to home—walks by the water, time with family and friends, and especially a good Thai meal.

Above all, Mimi loved her family. Her grandson Chris held an especially precious place in her heart. She loved him deeply and took tremendous joy in him throughout his life.

Mimi is survived by her daughter, Farrah Anderson; her son, Farivar Farzaneh; her beloved niece, Parvin Mohtasham, who was like a daughter to her; her grandson, Chris Anderson; and her brother, Bijan Mohtasham. She was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed. 

Once, when speaking about what might come after this life, Mimi said that if she could return as anything, she would want to come back as a seabird.

And perhaps somewhere beyond the horizon, there is now one more seabird soaring freely over the water.
