July 9, 1961 – November 13, 2025
It is with a heavy heart that the Moore Family shares the passing of Michael Van Moore on November 13, 2025, in Mill Valley at the age of 64. Mike was born on July 9, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Harold and Marlene (Hanson) Moore. In his formative years, the family lived in Ohio, Illinois, and California. Mike attended La Canada High School, where he excelled in track and field. He earned his bachelor’s degree from University of California, San Diego. During his time in college, he formed many deep and lifelong friendships.
Mike went on to pursue a career in advertising sales. He started his career at Dailey & Associates in Los Angeles. After moving to San Francisco, he joined KTVU Channel 2 sports advertising. At the height of his career, Mike had risen to the first Market Sports Manager with Comcast Spotlight. This specialized role served as a model template for the rest of the country. Mike simply excelled in advertising, as he was a gifted and humorous storyteller, had a genuine passion for all sports, and natural charisma, which was a formula for success.
First and foremost, Mike was a devoted father and “Girl Dad” to daughters, Ava and Lilli. He absolutely loved cooking for his girls and just spending time with them. He was proud of the young women they are becoming. The family looks forward to sharing stories of their funny and gregarious dad with his girls. Mike will be remembered by all of us for the sparkle in his blue eyes, quick wit, hearty laugh, and fervor for life.
Mike is survived by his children, Ava and Lilli Moore, and their mother, Kirsta Martino. Additionally, he is survived by his mother, Marlene Moore, sisters Mara (Mike) McCarville and Melissa Moore, five nephews, a niece, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Eugene Moore.
Over the years, Mike loved and cared for dogs. His most recent canine companion, Woodman, is residing with his sister Mara and her husband. Knowing Mike, more likely than not, he and perhaps even Hal, are enjoying a long walk together with his beloved Brittany Spaniels, Beau and Jesse. We love you Mike!
A Celebration of Life for Mike will take place at Monte’s Chapel of the Hills on Saturday, January 10 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Prader Willi California Foundation at pwcf.networkforgood.com, where Mike volunteered his time in the past.
