Michael Coe Vanlaningham

Michael Coe VanLaningham 49, of San Anselmo, California and Indianapolis, Indiana passed away suddenly at his home in California on May 20, 2021.

Michael was born in Indianapolis on July 16, 1971 to Michael and Alice (Shipley) VanLaningham. He grew up in Indianapolis, then moved to Seattle, Washington where he graduated from high school. Mike served in the Navy for 4 years where he trained to become a surgical tech. He worked in this capacity for many years in various locations, most recently at Marin Health Medical Center in Marin County, California.

Mike loved to travel and was an avid fisherman, He enjoyed camping and he loved to play pool . Mike had an amazing sense of humor and quite a quick wit. He made many friends wherever he went. His friends and co-workers say that any day was always a better day when you spent it with Mike. Mike was a very kind person who was always ready to lend a helping hand .  Recently his friends and co-workers honored him with a memorial gathering and the releasing of balloons. He also had many friends in San Francisco who held a memorial gathering at his favorite pub .

We are so thankful to his "California family" for all of their kind words, assistance with arrangements and their wonderful stories about Mike.

A plaque in his honor sums it up with these words---" It's hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember ".

Michael was preceded in death by his father Michael and brother in-law, Nick Wood.  He is survived by his mother Alice Watts, Greenwood, Indiana, and his sisters Kristen (Ted) Gillin, Martinsville, Indiana and Julie Wood, Indianapolis, Indiana.  He is also survived by his stepmother Charlotte VanLaningham, Seattle, Washington. He leaves behind nephews, Marc and Max Suding and niece, Sophia Wood, along with two aunts and many cousins.  

There will be a private memorial in his home state of Indiana in July.
