Miriam Habenicht Obituary

Miriam Tiernan Habenicht

September 6, 1937 – September 7, 2023

Miriam went to Heaven, with her daughters holding her hand, on September 7, 2023, at the age of 86 years and one day. She lived in Marin County all her life, grew up on Sycamore Avenue in Mill Valley and graduated from Tamalpais High in 1957. She met her loving husband, Roy Habenicht, while they were both attending College of Marin and working at Macy’s on 4th Street in San Rafael. They were married in 1959 and had two daughters, Kimberly and Nancy, who they raised in San Rafael. Many wonderful memories were made, including summers in Lake Tahoe. Miriam worked at United Market for 15 years and enjoyed chatting with every customer that went through her line. She was a devout Catholic and taught Catechism for 30 years, first at Blessed Sacrament and then at St. Isabella Church. Once her daughters were grown, Miriam and Roy traveled the world including many trips to Italy to visit family. They were married 60 years and modeled an ideal marriage of friendship, respect, love and laughter. People often joked saying that Miriam and Roy looked like they belonged on the cover of AARP magazine.  Miriam, also known as Mimi, was very close to her four grandchildren, Andrew Watson, Robert Watson, Kate O’Hara, and Grace O’Hara. She spent as much time as possible with them. They have many cherished memories of their time spent with their Mimi. Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; mother, Virginia Tiernan; and sister, Joan Medvetz (Paul). She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Watson and Nancy O’Hara (Kevin); her brother, Michael Tiernan (Liz); and her four grandchildren. Miriam was a bright light to everyone who knew her and will be in our hearts forever. It gives us comfort knowing that she has been reunited with Roy, the love of her life. A funeral mass for Miriam will be held at 2:00 on October 20, 2023, at Most Holy Rosary Chapel at St. Vincent’s School for Boys in Marinwood.
