Muriel Madeline Peery Tarrant
April 30, 1945 - October 24, 2024
Our beloved Muriel, affectionately known as “Mur,” passed away on October 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with a complicated illness.
Born and raised by Charles and Virginia Peery in San Francisco, Muriel attended private high school at The Hamlin School for girls and then College of Marin. She spent her adult life in Marin, commuting to SF for her job with the Federal Government. Muriel and Ed Tarrant married on June 26, 1976, at which time she joined his family of three children and dedicated herself to raising her family at home.
Muriel was deeply involved in her children's lives, volunteering at their schools and supporting their sports and other activities. As a youth, she enjoyed ice skating and was an excellent equestrian. She later took up golf, sharing many joyful years of play with Ed, family and friends.
Muriel loved her family and friends which were her greatest treasures, and she found immense joy in spending time together – whether over a delicious meal, discussing a book, or celebrating important milestones. A gifted cook, Muriel was known for creating amazing dinners that always started with her famous appetizers. She also loved socializing over lunch or dinner at her favorite restaurants, especially in her later years. Known for her bright smile, strong will, and sense of humor, she was always quick to say “Yes” to an invitation.
Muriel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward Patrick Tarrant (1943-2005). She is survived by her three children and spouses, Ken and LeAnn, Tom and Zoe, Julia and Dillon, her cherished grandchildren and spouses, Kevin and Jaclyn, Elise and Tim, Emily, Josiah, Dereje, great-grandchildren, Avila, Conor, Theodore, her siblings and spouses, Joe and Kay, Susan and Chuck, Jan, brother/sisters-in-law, Richard and Linda, Norine, as well as so many nephews, nieces, and close friends.
In honor of Muriel's memory, contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Foundation Fighting Blindness, or any cause you believe meaningful to her.
A memorial service and celebration of Muriel's life will be held on Saturday, November 16th at 10 AM at St. Sebastian's Church in Kentfield, with details about a reception to be shared at the conclusion of the mass. Muriel will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Assisted by Monte's Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo, CA.
