REBECCA (BECKY) WHITE
On July 3, Becky succumbed to the metastatic lung cancer she fought with courage and determination for almost six years. She passed peacefully in her home in the presence of family. Her kindness, generosity, sense of humor, love of family and ability to be a good and lasting friend to so many will be sadly missed.
Becky was born on October 5, 1950, in San Francisco, where she and her family, Darrell and Virginia Crisp and siblings Jackie and Tom, lived until they moved to Corte Madera. Becky attended Neil Cummins Elementary and Redwood High School. While at Redwood, Becky met Dan White, who became her husband of 51 years. After Dan completed his theological studies and was ordained a Presbyterian minister, they lived in Chico, where their daughter Erin was born, and in Pleasanton, where their son Dan Jr. arrived. The family returned to Marin in 1984 and built the Larkspur house that was their home for the rest of their lives.
Becky was a working mom, mostly in Marin schools and districts in various administrative capacities. She managed the challenges of working motherhood more than capably and, after her children were self-sufficient, she added on the pursuit of a university degree, which she achieved in 1993 from Sonoma State University. Becky retired as Business Manager for the Larkspur Corte Madera School District in November, 2013. After her retirement, she volunteered at several elementary schools, helping students with reading and math.
Becky’s talents and interests were numerous and diverse. She loved reading and her book club, could sew anything, did math in her head, perfected the art of sarcasm, built doll houses, cross-stitched, occasionally played the piano, put together demanding puzzles, wrapped the most beautiful Christmas presents, made the best deviled eggs ever and had an unforgettable side-eye. She loved to travel, having visited many places both domestic and abroad.
But the heart of Becky’s life was her family. Spending time with her children and then her grandchildren brought her such joy. Her love and support were constants they could count on. For her siblings, nieces and nephews, wherever they were, they knew she was thinking about them, wondering what they were up to. She was the kind of mom who made friends with her kids’ friends and was often welcome at their parties as they became adults. What she gave to the family is simply irreplaceable.
Becky was pre-deceased by her husband Dan, her parents and her father- and mother-in-law Neil and Lorna White. She is survived by her daughter Erin, son Daniel Jr., daughter-in-law Claudia, grandchildren Lucas, Naomi and Amelia, her siblings Jackie and Tom, five nieces and two nephews and their respective families.
