We celebrate the life of Salvatore “Sal” J. Catinella, who passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025. Born in South Philadelphia on February 10, 1936, he was raised in a home rich with tradition, prayer, and love.
From a young age, he felt a deep calling to his Catholic faith, attending seminary before answering another call — to serve his country in the U.S. Army. During his service in Okinawa, Japan, he met the love of his life, Susan Matteson, beginning a 63-year marriage. They later settled in Marin County, CA, where they built their home and raised their family.
Family was always his first priority. A devout Catholic, Sal faithfully attended First Friday Masses, prayed the daily rosary, and led by example with humility, compassion, and integrity. He honored his Italian roots by preparing his legendary spaghetti and meatballs, a special favorite he shared with family and friends.
Sal also took great pride in his career in community banking, where he served with professionalism and a true heart for helping others. His warmth, generosity, and kind-hearted character left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter Aileen Carmichael (Joe), daughter Patti Catinella, son Anthony Catinella (Lisa), and granddaughters Mikaela, Gianna, and Antonia, and was preceded in death by his wife Susan.
To honor Sal’s memory, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, St. Anthony Shrine, or St. Patrick’s Church in Larkspur, CA in lieu of flowers.
