Stephen Jostad Brock
November 24, 1950 - December 14, 2024
Stephen J Brock “Steve” passed away December 14, 2024, in his long-time residence in Corte Madera, California. He was 74 years old. Steve was born in Mill Valley, California.
As his father, Clayton Brock was transferred the Brock family moved around the country before returning to Marin where Steve attended and graduated from Redwood High School in 1968. His parents Doris and Clayton moved the family from Santa Rosa to Oregon in 1970, but Steve remained where he loved, in Marin.
He attended the College of Marin where he studied landscaping and developed a talent for gardening. In 1975 Steve became the sole proprietor of Irrigation Repair Service. He created a proprietary irrigation system contributing to some of the most exceptional gardens and landscapes on beautiful properties in Belvedere, Tiburon, Mill Valley, and San Rafael. Steve used to say, “if you water plants, they will grow”. Steve had a reputation for courtesy and ingenuity. There was a mutual loyalty and trust lasting multiple decades between Steve and his many Marin clients.
Steve was an expert sailor. He loved being on the water and out in nature. Those close to him knew he had a passion for rock’n’roll music along with a vast knowledge of musicians. He emphasized the poetry in song. Although he was primarily a solitary man, he enjoyed the opportunity to play guitar and keyboards with his friends. He enjoyed leisurely travel to Big Sur, Calistoga, and Hawaii with his companion, Michelle Long, who resides on the Monterey Peninsula, his second home.
Steve was a kind, thoughtful, quiet, and generous man. He was a loyal friend who was comfortable alone but cherished time with others. He had a great sense of humor.
Steve is survived by his two sisters, Diana Makes of Tucson, Arizona and Kathy Weyand of San Luis Obispo, CA.
