Vincent Ferrer

We are so sad that our brother, Vince, died. After his passing, our long-planned family reunion to Louisville, KY transformed from a celebration of his 60th birthday into a time of tears and laughter and remembering all that he meant to our family. 

Vince was born in San Rafael, CA to our parents, Juan and Irma Ferrer, both deceased. He idolized our dad and loved sharing times when they would take a break from Ferrer Plumbing and eat lunch at Marin Joe's. He lived by dad-isms: “I always have cash on me. Learned that from dad!” He would reminisce about mom’s amazing cooking, the dozens of ice cream choices in the freezer, and the overindulgent Christmas mornings she created. Our home at 20 Manzanita Avenue was full of special family memories.

Vince attended St. Raphael School, Marin Catholic High School, and University of San Diego, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He grew up playing baseball as an infielder, from Little League, to high school, to Division 1 baseball at USD. He worked at a variety of jobs including banking, mortgages, the restaurant industry, and most recently as Unit Manager at Boichik Bagels in San Francisco. 

Our brother had many great friends over the years, from kindergarten to sports teammates to college buddies to his Marina pals. He had many names: Vince, Vinnie, V, VJ, Vincent John (mostly when he was in trouble with our mom!), Uncle Vince, Great Uncle Vince, and most recently, “The Mayor of the Marina”, because wherever he went, there was someone who yelled out, “Hey, Vinnie!” An avid sports fan, especially for the 49ers and SF Giants, he served as resident “tv sports commentator” calling plays, quoting stats, and critiquing the refs decisions. He was an assistant baseball coach for both the Marin Catholic Varsity and the CA Warriors teams. He was always so proud when any of his former players went on to play collegiate or pro ball.

Vince loved his family and cherished his relationship with his brother, his sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. Special memories include trips to Washington D.C. with his brother and nephews, watching his nephews play baseball at Cooperstown, La Familia reunions, and staying at Pechanga Casino for Christmas at his niece’s house. Future family gatherings won’t be the same without him. 

Vincent is survived by his brother, Frederick Ferrer, sisters Cynthia Ahern and Sylvia Ferrer-McGrade (Paul McGrade), nephew Jason McGrade (Meghan Cahill), niece Katelyn McGrade (Sam Jensen), Andrew Ahern (Anna), Corey Ahern (Kelly), Great nieces and nephews: Emily Jensen, Drew Ahern, Kara Jensen, Leo Ahern, Maya McGrade, Henry Ahern, Samantha Jensen, and Reese Ahern. Goddaughter Brooklyn Wandzilak and Godson Luke Uchida.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Vincent’s Life at the Visitation on August 25 from 5pm to 5:30pm at St. Raphael Church, 1104 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael, CA 94901, followed by a Vigil on August 25 5:30-6:30 pm at St. Raphael Church and the Funeral Mass on August 26 10:00 am at St. Raphael Church. A reception will follow the Private Burial at San Rafael Joe’s Restaurant 931 4th Street San Rafael, CA 94901.
