William Howard Gunther

GUNTHER, William Howard - A native of New York, NY, and longtime resident of California, passed away on June 14th, 2025 in San Rafael, CA at the age of 83. He was a beloved husband of 43 years of Marilyn Sue Gunther of Santa Rosa; loving father of Suzanne C. Anderson and husband Ture of San Rafael and Lisa Gunther and husband Daniel of Aiken, SC; grandfather of Lauren I. DePhillips of Aiken, SC; brother of Linda Carella of Cape Coral, FL and Gayle Gunther of Alexandria, VA. 

He served in the US Air Force, joined the New York City Police Department. Upon moving to California, he became a fireman with the City of Richmond, CA, from which he later retired. After retirement he served as a volunteer for the California Highway Patrol in Santa Rosa, CA. He also enjoyed hobbies and friends most involving the Sebastopol Rifle and Pistol Club. He will be missed by his countless friends and neighbors.

In honoring their father’s wishes, no service will take place. The family asks for your support and fond memories to carry on their loved one’s legacy.
